Dear Greenpeace's Activist,
Yesterday,
700 people came together with Greenpeace to form a
human banner and send a clear message to the government:
"QUIT COAL". It’s your generous support
that enabled us set to sail on the Rainbow Warrior
and give a voice to the communities demanding that
the Thai government ditch dirty imported coal to save
the planet. If
you haven’t done so already, I’d encourage you to
sign the petition urging the Energy Minister to lead
the energy revolution by switching to alternative
energies.
"Seven
years", warns Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of
the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
That's all the time we’ve got to reduce our greenhouse
gas emissions to safe
levels or it'll be too late to prevent catastrophic
climate change which will
cause large parts of Thailand, including Bangkok,
to be swallowed by the rising
seas. What's more, extreme weather events including
droughts, floods and cyclones will become more frequent
and more devastating.
Unfortunately
the Thai government has decided to ignore this undeniable
evidence and go ahead with a fossil fuel-based energy
policy that will make the Kingdom ever more reliant
on foreign sources of energy. Equally alarmingly,
the Thai government is also exploring dangerous and
expensive nuclear power as means of achieving energy
independence.
Thailand
is blessed with numerous sources of alternative energy,
from wind to solar, from geothermal to biomass, that
have the potential power the Kingdom safely and cleanly.
Click
here to tell the Thai government to abandon dirty
coal and dangerous nuclear energy and bring in the
investment to develop alternative energies.
Thank
you again for all your support. I’m confident that
together, we can achieve a brighter, cleaner future,
with energy independence.
Mike
