This past September, we accomplished an incredible feat — at least 70 governments signed the Global Ocean Treaty on the very first day it was open for signature, including the United States! Now the real work begins.
As soon as 60 countries formally ratify the treaty, the Global Oceans Treaty will become international law. That means we can ramp up international action to reverse the devastating decline of nature and allay the climate crisis by establishing High Seas marine protected areas and ensuring activities in this important ocean area are properly assessed and managed to prevent harm to marine life.
The US can be part of this historic move toward protecting the oceans once again, but we need to keep up the pressure. Tell your senator to support the formal ratification of the Global Oceans Treaty now.
Once at least 60 countries ratify and the Treaty enters into force, we can ramp up international action to restore ocean health, mitigate climate breakdown and safeguard the lives and livelihoods of billions of people worldwide.
