During our campaign challenging Nike, Timberland, Adidas, Reebok, Geox, and Clarks to protect the Amazon and our climate, we have asked Clarks for a response to our report. Contrary to their claim in an email response to members, Greenpeace has not to date received an invitation to meet with Clarks. We would like to see positive engagement from Clarks on this issue, with commitments to stop trading with any suppliers in Brazil who will not commit to an immediate moratorium on further forest conversion for cattle ranching.

Until we hear something directly from Clarks it is important that they continue to hear from you on the issue. The question they continue to avoid is:

Can you guarantee that my shoes do not contain leather from the Amazon? Have you committed to a) work directly with Greenpeace on a solution, and b) stopped trading with any suppliers that have not committed to an immediate moratorium on cattle expansion into the Amazon?

The answers to these questions are still, unfortunately, “No.”

In the fight to save the Amazon, every step will count.  We lose an acre every 7 seconds, and yet Clarks has still refused to meet with Greenpeace directly to discuss this urgent issue. Please contact Clarks now and tell them that you are concerned that they cannot prove your Clarks are free from Amazon destruction.
