Dangerous, high-risk, meltdown, catastrophe... see why these words accurately describe nuclear energy and join us as we push for no new nukes!

Have you ever seen a real estate ad that lists, "Right next door to a nuclear reactor!" as one of its selling points? Few of us want a nuclear plant in our community - we've heard about Three Mile Island and Chernobyl and know that accidents can happen anywhere. So it's completely unacceptable that the U.S. government is pushing for more nukes when most of the rest of the world is saying "so long." We're not standing for it - and you don't have to either.

Are you living in the shadow of a nuclear power plant? Find out

Take action now before the nuclear industry puts us all in danger! Tell your Representative that you don’t want nuclear power and that they should put an end to nuclear subsidies and support renewable energy instead.

New comic book gets youth involved in environment issues

Greenpeace launched Nuclear Meltdown: A message from the darkness, an advocacy comic book about the perils of nuclear power and how the youth can make a difference in making the world a better place.

Nuclear power belongs in the past

It is now the 22nd anniversary of Chernobyl explosion, the largest civil nuclear disaster ever. Serious contamination spread over 150,000 square kilometers in Byelorussia, Ukraine and Russia. Radioactive clouds deposited radiation thousands of kilometers away. Hundreds of thousands people had to be evacuated, and millions more were left to live in areas that were dangerous to their health and lives.

BRIEFING: Saving the Economy by Saving the Planet

November 19, 2008

The financial crisis and prospect of global recession has created an unexpected opportunity to take dramatic action on behalf of the planet. It has become clear that governments will need to intervene in their economies on an unprecedented scale, and many are now considering stimulating growth with massive investment programs. However, it must be recognized that such large-scale intervention will not succeed unless we also protect the environmental capitol that underpins our economic health.

October 15, 2008

WASHINGTON--In advance of tonight’s presidential debate on energy and the economy, Greenpeace released a new backgrounder comparing different energy sources. The release comes after Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin unveiled a new slogan at a rally in Ohio: "Drill, baby, drill and mine, baby, mine!" to promote more oil drilling and more coal mining.

Greenpeace Statement On Patrick Moore

October 10, 2008

Patrick Moore often misrepresents himself in the media as an environmental “expert” or even an “environmentalist,” while offering anti-environmental opinions on a wide range of issues and taking a distinctly anti-environmental stance. He also exploits long-gone ties with Greenpeace to sell himself as a speaker and pro-corporate spokesperson, usually taking positions that Greenpeace opposes.
