Obama Administration Restores Science to Decision-Making under Endangered Species Act

Fate of Polar Bear under the Act Remains at Risk

Media release - April 28, 2009
“We applaud Secretary Salazar’s decision to rescind Bush administration regulations that weakened protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), effectively restoring science as a driver in federal decision-making,” said Melanie Duchin, Greenpeace climate campaigner in Alaska. “However, it is a half-measure. We urge him to also acknowledge the role of global warming pollution under the ESA and save the polar bear from extinction.”
