Statement by John Passacantando, Executive Director, Greenpeace USA

Media release - October 18, 2007
On the expected introduction of ‘America’s Climate Security Act’ by Senators Lieberman and Warner today:

WASHINGTON - "The introduction of the Lieberman-Warner legislation is an important step in the effort to stop global warming. Introduced with broad support, the bill signals that a majority of the Senate finally supports deep and mandatory reductions in global warming pollution. Regrettably, however, this proposal still falls far short of what scientists say is needed to adequately address this crisis.

"The truest test of a legislative proposal on global warming is whether or not policy makers will be able to look their children and grandchildren in the eye and say they did what was necessary to truly solve the problem. This legislation won't meet that test."
