We have a ways to go to stopping the needless slaughter of the oceans' whales, but a move last week that will staunch corruption in the International Whaling Commission was hailed as a victory by more than 25,000 Greenpeace supporters.

To be exact, 25,699 of our supporters and members sent a letter of thanks to President Obama and his administration for their support in this measure to end corruption at the IWC - the international body charged with enacting a ban on all commercial whale hunting.

Earlier this year over 47,000 Greenpeace members sent a message to President Obama urging him to keep his word after he stated that,"

"As president, I will ensure that the U.S. provides leadership in enforcing international wildlife protection agreements, including strengthening the international moratorium on commercial whaling. Allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable."

Looks like the President is listening.
