Governor Gray Davis has more of it than he knows what to do with. Since the California state government got into the game of energy procurement in January, Governor Davis has locked us into a gas-based electricity supply. This means more local air pollution problems, more climate change and an even greater energy crisis in the making.

We could prevent the ongoing transfer of California's wealth to Texas gas companies through conservation and by catalyzing a domestic industry in clean energy. Greenpeace is calling for two billion dollars to be invested in technologies like conservation, wind, and solar. Making this investment would save on our energy bills, clean the air, reduces global warming pollution, create tens of thousands of good jobs in California, and end the multi-billion dollar corporate welfare Davis has given the gas and electric utilities.

The good news is that the California Power Authority meets for the first time on August 24, 2001 to bring some sanity into the business of California's energy supply. We will be there to ask the new Directors of the Board to allow some sunshine into the process of determining California's future energy policy and pathway. Greenpeace will ensure that tow billion dollars goes to conservation and renewables, from the $5 billion bond revenues that they have under their control. We ask you to support us. Because no on wants to have gas.
