My husband and I (both in our mid-50s) rent a house completely
off the grid in the high desert. The nearby river flooded this
January and February and took out many large, old trees, erroded
miles of bank and destroyed bridges and riparian habitat. We've
witnessed the effects of global warming firsthand.
Our organic vegetable garden is watered from a well with a solar
pump. We plan to build a small, non-toxic, sustainable all solar
house with adobe blocks made from our soil, hopefully with help
from neighbors. I am hoping to earn a living from home, maybe with
the computer, so I don't waste fuel commuting 50 miles daily.
