In this day and age of information overload, it's hard to know
who to believe. Global warming is a perfect example. I hear from
scientists and groups like Greenpeace that say glaciers are melting
and recent extreme weather events are a result of climate change.
But then the Bush administration and some other organizations say
that there's nothing to worry about.
I don't live near an ice cap, haven't spent any time on a
glacier, but I know that if Greenpeace is right - these things are
significant.
I guess it all comes down to money. I know that the Bush
administration takes a lot of money from the oil industry and it
turns out all the privately funded organizations, are privately
funded by companies like ExxonMobil.
Since Greenpeace gets its money from average people like me, it
is actually able to remain objective. So when Greenpeace conducts
its research, I am often paralyzed by the statistics and
conclusions drawn.
I have been following "Project Thin Ice" pretty closely since it
started - and was amazed by Greenpeace's findings last week
regarding Greenland's glaciers. It seems Pandora's box has been
opened.
I am grateful that in addition to providing HONEST facts about
global warming - Greenpeace also provides ways to take action.
Greenpeace's high profile gives those of us who are concerned about
climate change, hope that catastrophe can be averted.
