I am an avid snowboarder, river runner, and hiker. But lots of
us here in Colorado are more than a little worried. The snow
seasons have been whacked out, as in less than what they should be,
several years in a row now. The rivers then aren't as full as they
could be, and should be. Everyone is talking about how weird the
weather is - record heats and drought for the farmers for five
years in a row now.
I moved to Boulder from Denver so I could more easily ride
around on my bike. And I am committed to purchasing a hybrid, or
FFV, as my next vehicle. (I currently drive a Subaru that has just
been paid off). I am an active sustainable energy advocate, and
volunteered to get Amendment 37 successfully passed - in favor of
incorporating more renewable energy sources into the state's
utilities.
I've been talking about global warming since I was a kid in high
school in the 80s. It is amazing to me that its still being
debated, that our country is still so far behind the times as far
as the rest of the world's more proactive actions are concerned.
Denver will be hosting a huge climate change conference in 2006,
and hopefully we will be able to affect greater positive changes as
a result.
