I live just outside our nation's capital, and I watch people zoom to work everyday in their cars - most of them are alone. They deal with traffic jams, getting cut off, road rage and more. I see these people as I am standing on the side of the road waiting for the bus. What better way to get to work than to have someone else drive me? I don't have any of the hassles those other people do. I read and listen to music. I arrive at work relaxed and headache free. This is just one of the things I do to try to alleviate global warming.

I also do other things. All my electronics run on rechargeable batteries. I recycle everything that I can. I use environmentally friendly products and cleaning supplies - all in an effort to "step lightly." I must admit that I do own my own car, but I've had it for seven years and have not even hit the 50,000 mile mark yet. When given the choice, I chose public transportation over anything. I work in the environmental field and I like that I not only talk the talk, but walk the walk as well.

I know that I am making a difference in my world just by choosing to do the things I do, even if it's not a big difference. I also believe that I influence the people around me to change their ways.  I'm waiting for the day that politicians and world leaders realize that global warming is real and that we all need to become more responsible to stop it.
