KFC gets a special V-Day delivery from Greenpeace activists

February 14, 2013

Love is in the air. As polarizing as Valentines Day can be, one cant deny its underlying themes. And Im not talking about chocolates and flowers. Feel however you want about the holiday, theres a lot to be said for the power of love and action. [caption id="attachment_15579" align="aligncenter" width="584" caption="San Diego Orangutans cruise to their local KFC"][/caption] Greenpeace activists across the country showed a little love to KFCs yesterday- and in return are hoping for a little action. You see; KFC's relationship to packaginghas had a rocky history. In May of 2012, Greenpeace discovered that KFC along with several other companies were junking the jungle. So we started a campaign that spread across the world, to save rainforests from being turned into chicken buckets. Last December, KFC and their parent company Yum! Brands expressed interest in taking an active role in saving rainforests by announcing a new sustainable packaging policy. Many fast food competitors have gone all the way"and committed to policies that protect rainforests from becoming throwaway fast-food wrappingor anything else in their restaurants. But thus far KFCs action is little more than an enticing glance from across a crowded room. On Valentines Day activists across the country delivered hundreds of Valentine themed petitions to their local restaurants - hopeful that showing KFC a little love will encourage them to show a little concrete action to keep rainforest out of their supply chain. With only 400 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, we dont have time to waste. Take action and tell KFC to develop a comprehensive packaging policy that keeps them out of rainforests once and for all. Do it for the love of tigers!
