United States —
In the mid 1990s, grunge ruled the music world. But one band managed to single-handedly revive the punk rock scene with its breakthrough album Dookie. Green Day has come a long way since those days. They’re a little older, a little wiser and they’re a helluva lot more outspoken.
Millions of fans are buying, downloading and listening to Green Day's latest album, American Idiot.
The album is bold and visionary, communicating a range of emotions
through the album's namesake protagonist that relates directly to the
current cultural and political scene in this country. For the
second time in their career, their record has hit number one. So it was
no surprise when the group took home the Viewers Choice Award for
American Idiot. But it’s not just teenagers and 20-somethings that are
rallying around the group’s sound and politics. Critics are cheering
the group’s latest release, and on August 28, Green Day won seven
awards at the Video Music Awards.
The band is now touring all across America and we’re at each and every
venue with them. No, we’re not groupies! The band has
provided us with the opportunity to set up tables at their concerts
where we can recruit new supporters and encourage people to take action.
This isn’t the first time that Green Day has helped us further our
efforts. We've accompanied them on previous tours over the
years. In addition, the band has starred in public service
announcements on our behalf, donated songs to help us promote our
issues and provided signed memorabilia for us to use as fundraising
items.
If you plan on seeing Green Day this fall, stop by our table to get
involved. To see a list of concert dates and venues (and
everything else you could ever want to know) visit their Web site at www.greenday.com
"In its musical muscle and sweeping, politically charged narrative, it's something of a masterpiece, and one of the few - if not the only - records of 2004 to convey what it feels like to live in the strange, bewildering America of the early 2000s." --All Music Guide
"Not only does it contain Green Day’s finest songs (and choruses) to date... but it also scratches at the surface of political dissatisfaction with nails sharp enough to leave a nasty scar." --Dot Music
"American Idiot screams at us to do something, anything - a wake-up call from those were once shared our apathy." --Pitchfork
