Greenpeace Responds to Trump Labor Secretary Withdrawal

February 15, 2017

In response to news that Trump’s appointment for Labor Secretary Andrew Puzder is expected to withdraw from consideration, Greenpeace USA spokesperson Travis Nichols said:

“Andrew Puzder’s withdrawal from consideration as Labor Secretary is a major victory for the resistance. Puzder’s collapse confirms what the millions of people opposed to Trump have known all along — this administration is an unqualified mess full of unvetted vulnerabilities that will serve their own interests over the health, safety, and well-being of the country.

“Greenpeace stands with its labor and economic justice allies who rejected Andrew Puzder from the beginning and kept the pressure on the Trump administration. Puzder was not on the side of the American people and would have been disastrous for workers in the United States. He opposed sensible protections for workers, such as providing affordable health care, overtime benefits, and a livable minimum wage, while consistently showing he will sacrifice workers for corporate profits.  Like every one of Trump’s cabinet choices, Puzder consistently put special interests over the interests of the people.

“America deserves a government that works on behalf of its people, not for corporate profit. It is up to each one of us who cares about the American workforce to protect each other, to fight for each other, and to resist the ways in which Donald Trump and his crony cabinet threaten America. That means not only rejecting Andrew Puzder but anyone else Trump puts forth who puts a corporate agenda above the country’s interests.”
