In response to Trump’s announcement that he would reopen review of Obama-era fuel efficiency and clean car standards, Greenpeace USA spokesperson Charlie Cray said:

“Car companies have lobbied Trump for months to roll back clean car standards, putting profits ahead of the health of people and planet, and this is the result. Trump campaigned on a promise to cut corporate lobbying, but today’s announcement unmasks another empty promise to American voters.

“Trump’s favoritism for corporate profits will put the brakes on the development of new, well-paid American jobs. Industry investments in fuel efficiency not only create jobs, they save billions of dollars for hard-working Americans and protect our air and climate.

“Cleaner transport means cleaner air. Trump’s backing of dirty cars and corporate profits is not what Americans want. The reality is clean cars will create a healthier America.”
