Greenpeace Response to Senate Confirmation of Scott Pruitt to Lead EPA

February 17, 2017

Washington, DC- In response to Senate confirmation of Scott Pruitt as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, despite a boycott from Democrats on the Environment and Public Works committee, Greenpeace USA Executive Director Annie Leonard said:

“Scott Pruitt has made it clear he wants to destroy the Environmental Protection Agency, and now Trump and the Republicans in Congress have put him in charge. This is disgraceful. Everyone who cares about protecting our air, water, and land must now do everything in our power to minimize the damage. Every Senator who voted for Pruitt should be prepared to answer to constituents when the next Flint, Michigan crisis happens in their districts. And every Senator who voted against Pruitt and boycotted his vote must continue resisting and holding Pruitt accountable for every step of the way.

“Every single one of Trump’s nominees share the same neglect of facts and disregard for the most vulnerable communities in this country–and now they will all share the same pain in their sides, the millions of people in this country who want a government that works for them, not for special interests. Scott Pruitt does not care about healthy communities, clean air and water, or a stable climate. It is up to all of us to still demand those basic rights and fight for them.”
