On the Road with Doug

Here are some highlights from their tour.

People lie down on Pioneer Square in Portland, Oregon to spell out a message about the public forests that remain threatened by industrial logging practices.

September 23:
The Doug and I spent the weekend in Eugene tabling at the Eugene Celebration. The weather was a bit wet but that did not stop the locals from coming out. Folks in general were very happy to see this type of outreach going on and were shocked at the fact that the Doug was taken out of a forest so close to their home. Also while we were in town we did some outreach at the Cheney event which occured on Friday. People there were not as welcoming as they were at the celebration. We were kicked out of the parking lot pretty fast.

We are now in Portland gearing up for the Forest Nation Concert which is happening this Friday in downtown Portland at Pioneer Square. We will have lots of great music, speakers, and other exciting activities for folks to plug into. Also at 5:00 we will try to create a human art image in the square. -- Ginger

Greenpeace co-founding member and author Rex Weyler and campaigner Ginger Cassady team up to protect our remaining ancient forests during a Greenpeace book tour stop in Ashland, Oregon.

September 27:
On Sept. 27th in Ashland, Rex Weyler, co-founder of Greenpeace, joined us at the Rogue Valley Growers Market in Ashland with his new book How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists, and Visionaries Changed the World. We got a streaming flow of visitors to our spot next to the Ashland armory. It seemed so far from the war, yet the war machines were being primed right there in peaceful little Ashland. We are also mobilizing and engaging people for the National Forest Protection Alliance national convention being held this weekend at Siskiyou Meadows in Southern, OR. We also brought action alerts for people to call their senators to oppose Senator Gordon Smith's (R-OR) Lawless Logging Rider. The rider would mandate logging in the largest proposed timber sale in modern history, the Biscuit timber sale. The rider would also prevent any court in the U.S., including the Supreme Court, from declaring Biscuit logging illegal.

The worst kind of dirty politics, Smith’s ecologically devastating and economically wasteful Lawless Logging Rider must be stopped.
