With a new year, most of us feel inspired and empowered to change, stop and\/or start new habits, what if we did this differently? What if we set new <\/span><span>goals <\/span><span>and then came up with sub-goals to support and help achieve these <\/span><span>goals<\/span><span>? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-e4eceb38-9271-a19c-754b-49b4abe7686a\"><span>With that in mind, let\u2019s start a New Year\u2019s Revolution! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 1: I will eat good food <\/span><br \/>\n<span>First of all, what is good food? Greenpeace believes that food that is grown locally, and without chemicals is good food &#8211; this is <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/news\/Blogs\/makingwaves\/how-does-eco-food-affect-your-body\/blog\/58333\/\"><span>ecologically grown food<\/span><\/a><span>. So with a goal like <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iknowwhogrewit.org\/en\/pledges\/\"><span>eating good food<\/span><\/a><span>, the sub-goals can be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I\u2019ll buy locally produced food from a local market as much as possible;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019ll start growing seasonal vegetables;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019ll go <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/campaigns\/agriculture\/problem\/More-Meat-Threatens-The-Planet\/\">meat-free on Mondays<\/a> and reduce my fish consumption.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"ecological food\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/bb9c1567-bb9c1567-133165_235556.jpg\" alt=\"Locals eating ecological food in Kenya\" width=\"397\" height=\"298\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 2: I will lower my travel carbon emissions<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Air travel and shipping together account for about 5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conserve-energy-future.com\/various-air-pollution-facts.php\"><span>80% of lung diseases are caused due to pollution<\/span><\/a><span> from other cars, buses, trucks and other vehicles. With that in mind, this is how you can lessen your travel carbon emissions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I will start a lift club.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>I will travel to work with the staff transport.<\/li>\n<li>I will dump my car twice a week and take the bus or ride my bike to work.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"cycle to work\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/7cbaca0d-7cbaca0d-133166_235554.jpg\" alt=\"cycle to work\" width=\"500\" height=\"244\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 3: I will green my house <\/span><br \/>\n<span>Sometimes the simplest and most affordable way to cut down carbon emissions is to start at home. Home is an extension of you, so it\u2019s also a great place to start:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I will <a href=\"http:\/\/inhabitat.com\/10-easy-tips-to-cut-your-home-energy-bill-this-winter\/\">replace all the lights in my home with LED lights<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homecompostingmadeeasy.com\/foodscraps.html\">turn my waste into compost or fertiliser<\/a> for the yard.<\/li>\n<li>I will use green household cleaning products.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"food waste into compost\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/5fe58e57-5fe58e57-133169_235558.jpg\" alt=\"food waste into compost\" width=\"399\" height=\"299\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 4: I will shop for earth-friendly products<\/span><span> <\/span><br \/>\n<span>Making a shopping list helps to make shopping easier and quicker, but add to that goods that are not harmful to our planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I\u2019m going to start using reusable shopping bags.<\/li>\n<li>I will find alternatives for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onegreenplanet.org\/animalsandnature\/how-to-wean-yourself-off-palm-oil\/\">palm oil products<\/a> and those that have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org.uk\/blog\/oceans\/l%E2%80%99oreal-revlon-which-brands-are-polluting-ocean-microbeads-20160720\">microbeads<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m going to start using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onyalife.com\/news\/eco-friendly-products\/\">biodegradable waste bags and toilet tissue<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"reusable bag\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/116dbfd6-116dbfd6-133167_235552.jpg\" alt=\"reusable bag\" width=\"321\" height=\"321\"><\/p>\n<p><em><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-e4eceb38-9278-534f-3689-c5bc43b17267\">Picture courtesy of: Recycle Nation<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 5: I will help to conserve water<\/span><br \/>\n<span>To be water conscious is to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.conserve-energy-future.com\/various-ways-to-conserve-water.php\"><span>conserve water<\/span><\/a><span>, and this demands action from each of us for current and future water needs. As we all know by now, plastics are a huge problem in our water, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/news\/Blogs\/makingwaves\/every-single-piece-of-plastic-ever-made-still-exists\/blog\/58440\/\"><span>did you know that every plastic ever made still exists<\/span><\/a><span>? Most of which ends up in our water (like microbeads), to minimise the amount of plastic you use would make a huge difference, here\u2019s more.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I will use my washing machine only for full loads.<\/li>\n<li>I will <a href=\"http:\/\/eartheasy.com\/live_water_saving.htm\">check for leaks<\/a> in and around my home and fix them when need be.<\/li>\n<li>I will use water saving gadgets in my home, like a water saving showerhead.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/Press-Centre-Hub\/Publications\/The-Great-Water-Grab\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"water\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/62d9e76c-62d9e76c-133168_235550.jpg\" alt=\"water\" width=\"441\" height=\"294\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/Press-Centre-Hub\/Publications\/The-Great-Water-Grab\/\">The Great Water Grab<\/a>\u00a0explains\u00a0how the coal industry is deepening the global water crisis.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Goal 6: I want to make time for a healthy planet <\/span><br \/>\n<span>Join thousands of activists all over the world to end injustices by giving your time to a cause close to your heart. If you want to shoot straight at the source of the problem, then help us lobby governments all over the world:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Work for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/getinvolved\/jobs\/\">Greenpeace Africa<\/a>;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givengain.com\/c\/greenpeaceafrica\/donate\/\">donating member<\/a>;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Join a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/getinvolved\/Become-a-Volunteer\/\">local volunteer team<\/a> or even\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Start and win <a href=\"http:\/\/extra.greenpeaceafrica.org\/\">your own campaigns<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"enviro walk\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-africa-stateless\/2018\/10\/7483520c-7483520c-132361_233462.jpg\" alt=\"enviro walk\"><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-e4eceb38-927a-c4b1-64bc-412b00dc6f74\"><span>It really takes one small change at a time, that will make up to a much bigger action.
