The Australian Seismic blaster was heading to our shores to blast the already compromised West Coast to smithereens.. Familiar feelings of panic and nausea returned.. So many questions\u2026. How is it possible that these destructive seismic blasting vessels are being allowed?<\/p>\n\n<p>This battle round, we had to execute our first protest within 3 days.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/hleoNCYL6eB8qbWdhUcZSH7Zo0aoCuTHYlNbHslcq1aX_PZuv0hpxNi0crW8ldXOmduXimVq3vdM31eiPx-rpxOoNZy6N7s5PnJIbISoiG5yDh5mTHtWU3Hp3s7_Qg4c4HogTv8\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Our target for protests would be different\u2026 we would target Impact oil CEO, Johnny Copelyn. I consulted with both metro police and Parks and Recreation and our first protest was hurriedly put together.. Our target was Johnny Copelyn\u2019s Suncoast Casino..&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Because of such short notice, we were unsure how many protesters we\u2019d have.. It could only be 3 of us but we\u2019d protest nonetheless, irrespective of the numbers..&nbsp; One voice is better than no voice, I believe \u2026<\/p>\n\n<p>To my amazement.. the numbers started showing up\u2026 5, 10, and our numbers kept growing\u2026 Curious onlookers wanting to engage, to find out what we were doing and why\u2026 The horrified looks on their faces when they found out the truth\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-cta\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/africadonate.greenpeace.org\/your-power\/?_ga=2.45269411.640935984.1651567611-869497554.1648113710\">HELP US ACHIEVE MORE VICTORIES TOGETHER<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>As we stood protesting outside Johnny Copelyn\u2019s \u2018Suncoast casino\u2019, we could hear echoes&nbsp; of \u201cThank you for taking a stand, Thanks for protecting the oceans, Well done\u201d from bystanders\u2026<\/p>\n\n<p>It gives one a certain amount of pride knowing that you\u2019ve managed to put this protest together in only a few days and people have taken note of the looming disaster on our West Coast.. Engaging and educating the public on the disastrous consequences of seismic blasting and having them understand the reason why we protest is a mini victory, irrespective of the court&#8217;s decision..&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Our small 3 person protest soon became 30+ strong\u2026 and we were heard, our message was passed on..&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Once the applicants, the small-scale fisherfolk and communities, took their case to the Cape Town High Court, we waited in nervous anticipation as their case between The Applicants and Australian company Searcher Seismic was being heard.. Judge Thulare ruled in favour of the Applicants, the small-scale fisherfolk and communities and instructed Searcher Seismic to halt Seismic blasting\u2026 for now\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The feeling you get when you open up gifts from a loved one\u2026 can\u2019t compare to the feeling you get when you know that the ocean environment is safe from destruction for a little while longer\u2026 Between the tears\u2026 the gasps of relief\u2026 \u201cOMW, we did it again\u2026 We\u2019ve managed to halt the destruction of the West Coast for a little longer\u201d\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>I\u2019m super proud to be a Greenpeace Volunteer Activist..
