exceptional expedition to the heart of the Congo Basin, to the villages of Lokolama and Penz\u00e9l\u00e9, as well as to Mbandaka, in Equateur Province. <\/p><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group the Congo Basin, victories are not only won in villages or in the heart of peatlands. They are also won in the corridors of power. It is with this conviction that Greenpeace Africa has brought the voice of the indigenous communities of <strong>Lokolama<\/strong> to official offices, from<strong> Kinshasa<\/strong> to <strong>Mbandaka.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An administrative obstacle removed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>For several months, an administrative decision prevented Greenpeace Africa from directly supporting the community of Lokolama. This was an incomprehensible and unfair measure that paralyzed local initiatives that were vital to the survival of the forest and the well-being of its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n<p>Faced with this situation, our team stepped up its efforts. Two strategic meetings were held with the<strong> Governor of Equateur Province<\/strong>, one in Kinshasa and the other in Mbandaka. During these discussions, we presented a clear plea:<strong> lift the restrictions and allow the communities to continue their protection work.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A major step forward<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Following these discussions, a victory was achieved: <strong>the official lifting of the decision<\/strong>. Greenpeace Africa can now once again support the inhabitants of Lokolama in their sustainable forest management and conservation projects.<\/p>\n\n<p>But this progress does not stop there. A <strong>memorandum of understanding<\/strong> between Lokolama and Penz\u00e9l\u00e9, two communities that have long been in conflict, still needs to be finalized and submitted to the governor to seal the reconciliation and secure the future of their forests.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Politics at the service of the people<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>This success demonstrates that political advocacy, when rooted in the realities of communities, can make a difference. It is a reminder that <strong>decisions made in capitals must always reflect the needs of the people who live in direct contact with the forest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>Without recognition and support, our efforts are in vain. But with the right decisions, we can protect our forests and build a better future for our children<\/strong>,\u201d said a Lokolama leader after the announcement.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A strong signal ahead of COP30<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>As COP30 approaches, this episode sends a clear message: the voices of indigenous peoples and local communities must be heard and respected at all levels of governance. Their role is not secondary: it is central to the future of the Congo Basin.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-query posts-list p4-query-loop is-custom-layout-list is-layout-flow
