The consultant will play a key role in connecting Greenpeace Africa\u2019s campaigns with Mauritian audiences, translating complex environmental issues into compelling stories, and strengthening relationships with national media and key stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n<p>This position is suited for a <strong>junior communications professional with some experience<\/strong>, strong writing skills, and a good understanding of the Mauritian media landscape.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Main Duties<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><strong>A. Media Relations and Public Communications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop and maintain strong relationships with journalists and editors across Mauritian media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive media contact database.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, statements and opinion articles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proactively pitch stories to media outlets and coordinate interviews with Greenpeace Africa spokespersons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organise media briefings, press conferences, and journalist engagement opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to position Greenpeace Africa as a leading voice on environmental issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>B. Content Development and Storytelling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Produce communications materials supporting Greenpeace Africa campaigns, including: Press releases; Blog articles; Q&amp;A documents; Talking points; Campaign briefs &amp; Supporter emails<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Translate complex environmental and climate issues into accessible and compelling stories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight local perspectives and community voices connected to Greenpeace Africa\u2019s campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the development of human-interest stories that resonate with Mauritian audiences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>C. Digital Communications and Engagement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create communications for digital platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and LinkedIn.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the creation and coordination of digital content such as short videos, graphics and social media posts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amplify campaign work and media coverage through digital channels to increase reach and engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to supporter engagement initiatives and online mobilisation campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Feed into Digital and Comms strategies and tactics to further our campaigns in Mauritius.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>D. Monitoring and Reporting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conduct regular monitoring of Mauritian media coverage related to environmental issues and Greenpeace Africa campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Produce monthly reports on media coverage, communications outputs and digital engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide insights on media trends, opportunities and potential risks within the Mauritian media landscape.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do the above for digital impact, reach and use insights to inform future approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>E.<\/strong> <strong>Internal Coordination<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Work closely with Greenpeace Africa\u2019s Communications, Campaign and Engagement\/Digital teams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with Greenpeace Africa\u2019s broader communications strategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support coordination between communications, digital engagement and campaign teams to maximise campaign visibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Objective and Expected Deliverables<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>The objective of this consultancy is to strengthen Greenpeace Africa\u2019s public visibility and communications impact in Mauritius by:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Building strong relationships with Mauritian media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Producing high-quality communications materials supporting Greenpeace Africa campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting digital communications and public, supporter engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensuring Greenpeace Africa\u2019s campaigns are communicated clearly and effectively within the Mauritian context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>The Communications Consultant will be expected to deliver:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regular press releases and media materials supporting Greenpeace Africa campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Media outreach and journalist engagement activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monthly media monitoring and communications reports.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital content for Greenpeace Africa platforms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for media events, briefings and campaign communications moments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Qualifications and Experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Degree or equivalent experience in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies or a related field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2\u20134 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or digital communications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of the Mauritian media landscape.Excellent writing and storytelling.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to translate complex environmental issues into clear and engaging communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience with social media and digital communication tools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent written and spoken French and English.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working knowledge of Mauritian Creole is highly desirable.ong organisational and coordination abilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience working with NGOs, advocacy organisations or environmental campaigns.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience supporting communications for public campaigns, events or launches.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Basic photography or video production skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Duration and Scope of Work<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This consultancy will run for a period of 6 months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The consultant will work on an hourly basis. The total of work hours will not exceed 40 hours a week, \u200bbut could be extended depending on the workload.
