{"id":6439,"date":"2019-02-20T13:32:04","date_gmt":"2019-02-20T13:32:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/?p=6439"},"modified":"2019-11-06T08:22:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T08:22:07","slug":"greenpeace-africa-responds-to-budget-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/press\/6439\/greenpeace-africa-responds-to-budget-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Greenpeace Africa responds to Budget Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johannesburg, 21 February 2019 &#8212; In response to Finance Minister Tito Mboweni&#8217;s announcement during the 2019 Budget speech that Eskom will be granted a R69 billion bailout over three years (R23 billion each year), Greenpeace Africa\u2019s Climate and Energy Campaigner, Nhlanhla Sibisi, has said:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;If the government is serious about pruning and plucking away the rot in South Africa, it is clear that continuing to throw money at a broken Eskom without a real plan for recovery only puts all South Africans at risk.
