This proposal for an incinerator is the first of its kind in Aotearoa and, as such, requires close scrutiny. Permitting this incinerator could open the floodgates to many more proposals, allowing waste incineration to become significant in New Zealand\u2019s waste management landscape. This submission will outline why this is an undesirable outcome for our future.<\/p>\n\n

This submission contends that granting the application for the incinerator would take Aotearoa in the entirely wrong direction with regard to a sustainable waste strategy.<\/p>\n\n

This submission will demonstrate that the Applicant has not adequately assessed the environmental and human health impacts of the proposed activity and has glossed over important details relating to the toxic discharges from the facility.<\/p>\n\n

That people are somehow entitled to take, own, throw away, destroy and degrade. We are witnessing the impacts from living in a system rooted in colonialism and racism and extractive industries are devastating the planet and furthering the climate crisis. Now, wannabe miners are eyeing up the seabed in the South Taranaki Bight, and also seeking to plunder the deep seas. This problem is colossal, but so is our fight to protect te taiao. There are solutions to these issues.
