But this Government is proposing to allow 100 times more of a probable carcinogen onto the grains that feed us every day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Glyphosate is the key ingredient in Roundup, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iarc.who.int\/featured-news\/media-centre-iarc-news-glyphosate\/\">the World Health Organisation<\/a> classifies it as a <em>probable human carcinogen.<\/em> They also say it&#8217;s potentially genotoxic, meaning it could damage DNA.<\/p>\n\n<p>Bayer &#8211; which bought out Monsanto &#8211; sells the herbicide and has already been ordered by U.S. courts to pay billions to people harmed by Roundup, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/bayer-hit-with-2-bln-roundup-verdict-us-state-georgia-cancer-case-2025-03-22\/\">another 60,000 legal cases still pending<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>The Government has invited <a href=\"https:\/\/greenpeacenz.typeform.com\/to\/q43r9ltE?utm_source=press-release&amp;utm_medium=press-release&amp;utm_campaign=Responsive\">submissions<\/a> on their proposal, which are due on May 16.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThe Prime Minister seems more interested in the profits of big agrichemical giants like Bayer than they are in the health of New Zealanders,\u201d says Toop.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cInstead of making it easier to spray toxic chemicals on our food, the Government should be supporting farmers to transition to ecological farming that protects people and the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace did invite the Prime Minister to breakfast this morning along with a Labour representative. However, the Prime Minister did not accept the invitation and so a Christopher Luxon lookalike took his place.<\/p>\n<div class=\"EmptyMessage\">Block content is empty.
