AFRICA ♥ ARCTIC

Video | April 18, 2013

It's no secret that as the planet warms, the Arctic is melting at a rapid rate. Last year Arctic ice melted to its lowest extent in recorded history – less than half the area typically covered four decades ago.

In many ways the Arctic is a symbol of climate impacts around the world. Closer to home we only have to look to crop failures, droughts, unpredictable rains, and violent clashes for dwindling resources – the fingerprints of climate change are evident right across Africa.

So it was that climate activists and Greenpeace Africa volunteers came together last Saturday to take part in a global movement to highlight the impact that climate change is having in the Arctic. That said, our actions weren’t just about the Arctic – they were about what the melting ice symbolises to us as African people. And it was beautiful -- not to mention, good fun.
