Last month Greenpeace Africa was deeply saddened to learn that Prof. Wanagari Maathai, 'Mama Trees', had passed away.

She was also a Nobel Peace Laureate, an environmentalist, and the founder of the Green Belt Movement; a woman who stood up and fought fearlessly for the better management of forests -- and the communities that depend on them -- at a time when no one else would.

Now Greenpeace's Global Director, Kumi Naidoo, has prepared a heartfelt message, remembering the lives that have been touched by Maathai's incredible passion for social and environmental justice in Africa, and globally.

Please join us in honouring such an incredibly inspiring woman, paying our respects to "one of the true pioneers for justice in all its forms."

Greenpeace Global Director, Kumi Naidoo, speaks on the incredible imapact that Professor Wangari Maathai has had on the environmental, social justice, and gender movements.
