Villagers in Cameroon

The village of Babensi 2 informed Herakles and their local subsidiary SGSOC that they did not want to cede their land to form part of the company’s concession that the company wants to turn into a palm oil plantation covering more than 70,000 hectares. Herakles is attempting to push on with this project despite not having a land lease, as required by Cameroonian law, despite the fact it would have devastating environmental consequences by destroying swathes of natural forest and despite the fact many residents and communities are ill-informed of the impacts the project will have on their land and livelihoods.
