Job description

We are looking for a communications officer to join our team as part of the Climate and energy campaign.

This is a part-time position; the communications officer will work with campaigners from Greenpeace-Bulgaria and Za Zemiata for 16 hours per week.  

Responsibilities will involve the following:

  • Creating press releases, web pieces, opinion pieces, social media content and other communications materials;
  • Contacting journalists on behalf of the campaign; placing campaign stories and messages and advising on the media in Bulgaria,
  • Organizing press conferences and other media events;
  • Contributing to communications campaign strategy.

We are looking for someone with experience (2+ years) and following skills:

Essential

  • A track record of delivering successful communications campaigns in the public, private or not-for-profit sector;
  • Great knowledge of the Bulgarian media and how to place stories that create an impact;
  • In-depth knowledge of Bulgaria’s political landscape;
  • An interest in and commitment to fighting climate change;
  • Fluent English.

Desirable

  • An impressive contact list of Bulgarian journalists;
  • Experience of working with multiple organisations in a coalition;
  • Knowledge of Bulgaria’s coal industry;
  • Knowledge of EU law;
  • Fluency in other European languages.

Conditions of employment

Employment is as a communications officer on a freelance basis (self-employed), with an initial contract of 6 months (possibility of extension). Remuneration is dependent on experience and subject to negotiation with the successful candidate.
