Break Free Graphic

This May a historic mobilization of people from all walks of life is taking place around the globe. In Canada, people will walk, canoe and kayak in Vancouver together in solidarity to demand a clean energy economy and a just transition off fossil fuels. But first, a bit of background. If you're going to be in Vancouver around May 13 and 14th, sign up here to join us!

2015 was a BIG year. Together, we kicked Shell out of the Alaskan Arctic; we stopped the Keystone XL pipeline; we pushed the Alberta government to place a cap on tar sands emissions, and we forced TransCanada to abandon their plans for a supertanker port in Cacouna, Quebec.

Never before have we been faced with a better opportunity to embrace the renewable revolution, and keep fossil fuels in the ground so we can act on the growing climate crisis. Our new federal government committed to very encouraging and ambitious targets at last years UN Climate conference, like not letting the climate warm by more than 1.5 degrees. Now they need us to help them live up to their words.

The evidence is clear: we can’t meet our climate targets and build new pipelines. Already we’ve seen communities and Indigenous movements protest new pipelines across the country, and we need to keep the momentum going.

That’s why this May, we’re inviting people from all walks of life to join us in Vancouver for a courageous and historic act. Together, we will show through peaceful civil disobedience that fossil fuel projects like the Energy East and Kinder Morgan pipelines are the wrong direction for Canada’s energy future.

Break Free will be an unprecedented mobilisation of international organizations, grassroots groups and regional coalitions to stop fossil fuel projects on 6 continents. Please join us, and be a part of this historic moment.

Even if you can’t make it to Vancouver, you can still help make this action amazing by donating to Greenpeace today:

  • $60 can help provide food for people participating in trainings and the action

  • $100 can provide water safety kits for people in canoes and kayaks at the action

  • $250 can help train 50 people to learn peaceful direct action training

Donate today!

With your help, we can let the world know that Canadians are saying NO to tar sands expansion, NO to the Kinder Morgan and Energy East pipelines and YES to a 100% renewable energy future. Let’s make 2016 the year we break free from fossil fuels.

And if you’re going to be near Vancouver on May 13 and 14, then sign up to join us there!
