Marketing and use restrictions for HFCs in small refrigerators and freezers

Under the proposed European Regulation on fluorinated gases (HFCs, PFCs and SF6), soon to undergo a second reading in the European Parliament, refrigeration equipment with under 3kg of refrigerant is not subject to any requirements. A report by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) commissioned by Greenpeace.

Executive summary: Nevertheless, the Regulation does contain marketing and use restrictions for applications that don’t even exist (self-chilling cans), are already discontinued (SF6 in tyres) or are scheduled for imminent phaseout by their manufacturers (SF6 in sport shoes).
