House dust is a repository for environmental pollutants that may accumulate indoors. In October, Greenpeace examinated samples of house dust collected in 50 Belgian homes and in offices and the European Parlement. The results of the analysis show a significant level of pollution.
Executive summary: The objective of this study is to investigate the hazardous chemical content of house dust collected in belgian Houses and offices, as well as in the European Parliament based in Brussels. The collected dust samples were analysed for five different groups of hazardous chemicals. Greenpeace found a significant level of pollution in the housedust samples. The only way to end contimination in homes and offices is to adopt strong legislation that adequately controls the production and use of chemicals.
