Executive summary: The food industry has been one focus of Greenpeace campaigning since GM soya was first mixed, unasked and unwanted, into food exports to Europe from the US in 1996. At that time the vast majority of European food retailers and food and drink producers had a policy that either supported the use of GM ingredients or was often unaware or unconcerned about their use.
