Ice Ride in Bangalore & Mumbai protesting against Shell drilling for oil in the Arctic

Bangalore and Mumbai witnessed an Ice Ride on September 15, 2013 when hundreds of people gathered for a cycle rally and walkathon to protest against oil corporations, like Shell, who are trying to drill for oil in the fragile Arctic region. The rallys were a part of a Greenpeace global day of action in 36 countries and 75 cities with 14,000 people participating.

In Bangalore, around 100 people participated on cycles while fifty others were part of the walkathon. In the near future, the Arctic could be ice free for the first time ever in 800,000 years. The rates of sea ice melt in the Arctic correlate directly to increases of CO2 levels and increases in global temperatures, showing the alarming influence burning fossil fuels has on our planet.
