In March, the world watched as Japan was struck by an earthquake, followed by a tsunami and then a nuclear meltdown at one of its reactors in Fukushima. Countries all over the world ordered a review of their nuclear facilities. India however was and continues to be adamant about its biggest nuclear plant in Jaitapur, Maharashtra. Like Fukushima, Jaitapur is also in a high risk seismic zone. On the one month anniversary of the tragedy at Fukushima, Japan, people all across the country observed a ‘National Day of Action against Nuclear Technology’. Greenpeace activists took part in a candlelight vigil to show solidarity with the people of Japan and to demand a stop to the nuclear power plant at Jaitapur.
