Victory for India's forests: Celebration in Mahan

Villagers, activists and members of Mahan Sangharsh Samiti celebrated the Mahan forests being saved from coal mining n Singrauli on 30 March, 2015. Earlier in the month, the Coal Ministry confirmed that the Mahan Coal Block will not be auctioned. This was in reply to an RTI request by Greenpeace and based on the Environment Ministry's recommendation. The Mahan Coal Block would have destroyed over 1000 hectares of forest, more than 4 lakh trees and the livelihoods of more than 50,000 people.
