The protest comes after the Union government recently introduced the BRAI Bill in Parliament. The Bill proposes to set up a centralised single window clearance system which is designed to lower the bar for GM crop approvals with no independent long-term safety assessments of GM crops. BRAI will essentially facilitate the fast track entry of GM food crops into our agriculture.
