Making of the World's Biggest GM-Free Baingan Bharta

On September 6th, 2011 Greenpeace India and its supporters successfully created a World Record. 342.5 kilos of baingan bharta (a dish made of brinjals) was certified as the biggest ever by the Limca Book of Records. The bharta represented over one lakh people who signed the petition opposing the Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) bill and genetically modified crops. Take a look at what went into making the World Record.

The Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) bill can be tabled anytime in Parliament. This bill will create a body which will become the sole approver of genetically modified crops in the country. Over 1 lakh people signed the petition asking the Prime Minister to stop the BRAI bill. The World's Biggest GM-Free Baingan Bharta represented this opposition to the bill and GM food.
