Protest against tree-cutting at Sankey Road, Bangalore

The civic authorities of Bangalore plan to cut down some of the oldest trees in the city on Sankey road. Activists, residents and city dwellers came together on July 17, to protest against this. Two activists climbed one of the trees and unfurled a banner which said 'No Trees No future'.

The activists stayed on the tree for 24 hours. Local groups, residents and people from across the city asked the Mayor to hold a public consultation before felling more trees. The protesters and the activists walked to the Mayor's office on July 18 and submitted the signatures on the petition demanding a public consultation to the Mayor and urged her to take action.
