Greenpeace blocked one of the main gates of Shastri bhavan that is the entrance to the coal ministry with 18 life size tigers chained from one end of the gate to the other. Three tiger mascots held a banner "Our Forests are a No Go for coal". They also carried petitions signed by around 120,000 supporters and demanded a meeting with the coal minister Shri Prakash Jaiswal. The agenda was simple- Tell the coal minister that his ambitious plans to convert lakhs of acres of forest land to coal mines was destructive and unacceptable.

Forests in Central India are being threatened by the coal ministry's ambition to mine more coal. These forests are home to a large number of tigers and other wildlife species. They also provide livelihood to millions of people. Coal mining will impact all of them. Greenpeace India has been campaigning to keep these forests safe from coal mining. Renewable energy, energy efficiency measures and the coal available in the existing mines can provide electricity. The forests can be saved.
