Write a letter to the editor on Chernobyl

Page - April 26, 2006
Did your local newspaper cover the anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster? Send a Letter to the Editor to say that the nuclear threat continues, and the UN should stop promoting this dirty, dangerous industry.

Letter writing tips: Letters to the Editor should be short and to the point. Refer to a recent article published in the paper on Chernobyl, nuclear energy or the UN's nuclear watchdog, the IAEA. These points may help you write your letter:

  • The UN's International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continues to promote the nuclear technology that creates the very materials used to make the nuclear weapons it is mandated to stop.
  • A new Greenpeace report has revealed that the full consequencesof the Chernobyl disaster could top a quarter of a million cancer cases and nearly 100,000 fatal cancers.
  • Greenpeace is calling on the UN to stop promoting the nuclear industry, and focus instead exclusively on its critical mission of disarmament and world peace.
  • Nuclear technology is inherently dangerous. Today, thankfully, it is also unnecessary. Our energy needs can be met with safe and efficient renewable energy technologies.

Good luck with those letters! If yours does get published contact us by email with the details of your letter and the newspaper where it was published.
