The SV Rainbow Warrior comes to the east coast of India in November.
On her third voyage to India, the Rainbow Warrior is scheduled
to call on Chennai Port and Paradip Port to raise profile of the
rich marine ecosystems, fragile habitats and endangered creatures
of the World's oceans.
At both these stops on board Rainbow Warrior, Greenpeace aims to
offer a unique platform to bring together a cross-section of groups
and communities directly involved in the protection of our seas. A
dialogue on management of network of the global marine reserves,
and an introduction to Sea Mounts, the submerged mountains of our
seas will be the highlights of this tour. Greenpeace will also be
bringing focus on the Gulf of Mannar in Tamilnadu, a unique marine
biosphere reserve and Bhitarkanika sanctuary in Orissa, world's
last remaining Olive Ridley Turtle mass-nesting site.
Rainbow Warrior will call on Chennai port between November 7th
and 9th 2004, where various programs including photographic
exhibitions, film shows and other interactive programs aimed to
introduce the wonders of the marine world to students, Greenpeace
supporters and interested citizens are planned.
Rainbow
Warrior will call on Paradip port between November 15th and 20th
where a multi-disciplinary team will document and research the
mysterious phenomenon of mass-congregation of Olive Ridley Turtles
for mating. The Rainbow Warrior will conclude its tour in Paradip,
on 21st November 2004, where Greenpeace members will join the World
Fisheries Day celebrations with fishworkers groups and unions of
Orissa.
Greenpeace is an independent, campaigning organisation, which
uses non-violent creative confrontation to expose global
environmental problems and to force solutions, which are essential
to a green and peaceful future. Greenpeace's goal is to ensure the
ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.
