On Board The Esperanza

Glaciers are retreating. Ice caps are melting. Oceans are acidifying. In summer 2010, Greenpeace sailed to one of the most fragile regions on our planet to witness the impacts of the carbon-based economy on this pristine environment and to help leading scientists in carrying out the largest experiment of its kind on the effects of ocean acidification. Greenpeace is calling for the Arctic Ocean, historically protected year round by sea ice - now exposed as summer sea ice retreats - to be closed to all industrial activity, including destructive fishing.
