Protest Outside Fukui Prefecture Government Office, Japan

Greenpeace activists greet the Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yukio Edano outside the Fukui Prefecture Government offices with a banner reading: "EDA NO" (no nuclear). The activists are protesting against the Government's push to bring two reactors at the Ohi nuclear power plant back online - against public opinion and the recommendations of numerous experts. Japan currently has only one nuclear reactor out of 54 online, and will potentially be completely nuclear-free within one month. Greenpeace is calling on the Japanese government to rapidly increase its renewable energy capacity and leave its nuclear plants offline to ensure safety following the March 11, 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi, nuclear plant.04/14/2012
