Forest action in Paia Port

Greenpeace activists paint barges of illegally felled trees in Paia Port, Papua New Guinea, 2008. The logs wait on Paia Port's waterways, prevented from being loaded onto the Harbour Gemini ship, which was occupied by Greenpeace activists, in the rainforests of the Gulf Province. In 1995, the Papua New Guinea government granted 1.7 million hectares as a logging ‘extension’ to Turama Forest Industries. The timber permit for this new concession, called Turama Extension is valid until 2030. Read more »
