Activists Build Dams in Indonesia

Photo | 3 November, 2009

A less known cause of climate change is the destruction of peatlands in primary forests to make way for production forests. This is another problem Greenpeace is committed to stop. Here, in this photo from November 2009, Greenpeace activists and local community finish constructing a dam on a peatland canal to stop the drainage of the carbon-rich peatland. This was part of their "Climate Defender Camp" at Kampar Peninsula, Teluk Meranti village, Riau province, Indonesia
