Deforestation In The Congo Basin

The Congo Basin is home to the second largest rain-forested area on earth. Its importance to the global environment should not be underestimated.

Protecting these intact forest landscapes is vital is vital to prevent dangerous climate change worldwide, since they are huge carbon sinks and are important for the regional and local climate as well. The total carbon stock of the DR Congo – by far the largest country in the Congo Basin - is about 27 billion tonnes alone.
