Mr Kan was onboard the Greenpeace flagship Rainbow Warrior as it sailed passed the destroyed nuclear plant, on the eve of the fifth anniversary of the nuclear accident. The environmental organisation has launched an underwater investigation into the marine impacts of radioactive contamination resulting from the 2011 nuclear disaster on the Pacific Ocean. The former Prime Minister declared that the nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi is not over, including major threats from contaminated water from the site; restated his opposition to nuclear power in Japan, and called for its energy policy in Japan to be based on renewable energy.
