Scientists at work in the Arctic

The Arctic Sunrise is on a month-long expedition in the icy Arctic. Greenpeace is campaigning for a global sanctuary to be declared around the uninhabited area of the North Pole. The data collected by ScanLAB will later be used to create a 3D Point Cloud (or architectural drawing) of the ice floe, made up of thousands of co-ordinated points.

Arctic sea ice has already disappeared by 75% in the last 30 years, and scientists on board the Arctic Sunrise will be working with 3D scanning experts and engineers to capture the true shape of Arctic sea ice for the first time. 07/13/2012
