Daniel Mittler is the Political Director of Greenpeace International

Daniel is leading a global team of specialists working on issues ranging from sustainable fisheries management to delivering progressive policies that protect our climate. He and his team are responsible for internal strategy advice to campaigns and external representation at global political and business fora. He is also a member of the senior management team of Greenpeace's global forest campaign.
From 2008 to 2010 he was Head of the Germany Program at the European Climate Foundation. He was providing strategy advice and issuing grants to prevent new coal fired power stations in Germany, helping to successfully stop 10 new coal plants.
Daniel has been an activist since his youth and worked professionally for NGOs for over a decade. From 2004-2008 he was Political Advisor to Greenpeace International. He led Greenpeace’s work on trade, the G8 and international financial institutions and was an active advocate at the international climate negotiations. From 2000-2004, Daniel was Head of International Campaigns at BUND – Friends of the Earth Germany. From 2000-2002, he was additionally Earth Summit coordinator for Friends of the Earth International.
Daniel believes that political change comes through building alliances and has initiated many collective efforts and coalitions of NGOs. For example, he is one of the founders of the biannual McPlanet.com conferences, the biggest event in Germany dealing with globalization and environment issues. Daniel was also one of the initiators of both Attac’s working group on globalization and the environment and of CorA, Germany’s corporate accountability network. Daniel studied Politics, African studies and urban planning in Edinburgh, Kingston, Ontario and London. He is on the student selection committee for the United World Colleges in Germany and on the membership council of the Böll Foundation. When he finds time Daniel blogs and drinks organic beer.
